ZAMZAM WATER: A COMPARISON BETWEEN SCIENTIFIC AND ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

Zamzam water has the same characteristics as other drinking water which is a clear and transparent liquid that serves as the most essential requirement for all living things as a source of life but with high mineral contents. Previous research has found that Zamzam water contains possible hazardous chemicals. Hence, the issue becomes a conflict that may initiate debates and disputes between Islamic scholars and scientists. However, there was scientific evidence and hadith Prophet Muhammad PBUH regarding the health effects of Zamzam water that proved its health benefits. Furthermore, there were also differences between the scientific and Islamic perspectives on Zamzam water which have highlighted other subjects besides the similarity on its health advantages. Scientific views have discussed the chemical profile of Zamzam water and its potability as drinking water whereas Islamic views have focused on the background history of Zamzam water and the meaning of its name. Thus, there is a comparison between scientific and Islamic perspectives on Zamzam water.
