Abstract
Ubiquitous learning enables learning anywhere at any time. Mobile equipment and wireless internet access allows information in the form of text, images and videos to be accessed through search engines at any time from the internet. With the availability of a vast repository of information and resources, the ability to process information and knowledge through higher cognitive processes, such as analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating information, as well as communication and collaboration skills, are required. Are we preparing our students with the skills in this information age? The purpose of this study was to determine whether learning occurs during online interactions in the Collaborative mLearning (CmL) environments and develop a set of guidelines for the pedagogical role of the teacher. In this paper, the CmL module is designed based on the First Principles of Instruction and implemented with twenty (20) pupils in Form 2. Data collected from records of online communication on the technology, the equipment, and transcripts of interviews with students, researchers and journal records was analyzed. The communication records show that cognitive processes occurring during the interactions in the CmL module. A set of guidelines for the pedagogical role of the teacher in online learning environments can encourage interaction and learning in the CmL environment.
