KOMPONEN KESEDARAN PERIBADI DALAM NOVEL REMAJA TERPILIH PERSONAL AWARENESS COMPONENTS OF SELECTED YOUTH NOVEL

Abstract

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk meneliti pengaruh kecerdasan emosi dalam komponen kesedaran peribadi terhadap pembentukan sahsiah remaja dalam novel-novel remaja terpilih. Novel-novel remaja terpilih yang menjadi skop kajian ialah novel Trilogi Cinta karya Siti Jamina Ibrahim (2002), Impuls/Roh karya Sri Rahayu Mohd Yusop (2010), dan Warisnya Kalbu karya Sri Rahayu Mohd Yusop (2008). Komponen Kesedaran Peribadi dibahagikan kepada tiga ciri iaitu mengenal emosi sendiri, mengurus emosi, dan motivasi kendiri. Kehadiran komponen kesedaran peribadi dapat dikesan melalui peristiwa-peristiwa yang dilalui oleh watak yang pastinya mempunyai kaitan dengan latar belakang watak dan tahap kecerdasan emosi yang dimiliki oleh remaja tersebut. Remaja yang pandai mengurus emosi sewajarnya memiliki sifat remaja unggul iaitu mempunyai keimanan yang kukuh, akhlak yang mulia dan disanjung oleh semua orang. Kajian ini berlandaskan Teori Kecerdasan Emosi oleh Mayer, Curaso dan Salovey dan Teori Kecerdasan Emosi oleh Daniel Goleman oleh Daniel Goleman. Analisis untuk komponen ini dibuat berdasarkan perlakuan watak-watak remaja apabila menghadapi konflik. Analisis yang dibuat akan memperlihatkan keupayaan seseorang remaja menangani emosi yang dihadapi dan seterusnya pengaruh terhadap hubungan interpersonal remaja dengan rakan sebaya dan orang di sekelilingnya bagi membentuk persekitaran sosial yang sihat. Dapatan kajian ini telah menunjukkan bahawa tahap kecerdasan emosi yang dimiliki oleh watak-watak remaja dalam novel kajian terletak pada skala yang tingggi kerana mempunyai kemahiran untuk menguruskan emosi dan menjalinkan hubungan yang baik dengan pihak lain. Keupayaan remaja melepaskan emosi negatif yang dihadapi dan seterusnya menjadikan sesuatu emosi negatif itu sebagai motivasi untuk memperbaiki diri merupakan kejayaan yang besar dalam diri remaja. Keunggulan sahsiah watak-watak remaja ini terbukti apabila mereka sentiasa disanjung dan diberi kepercayaan oleh orang lain. Dapatan ini dengan jelas membuktikan bahawa komponen kesedaran peribadi dalam teori kecerdasan emosi memainkan peranan penting kepada pembentukan sahsiah remaja unggul seperti yang diaspirasikan oleh Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan.

This study was carried out to investigate the influence of Emotional Intelligence, especially the self awareness component on character building in chosen teenagers’ novels. The novels selected for this research are Trilogi Cinta (Siti Jamina Ibrahim, 2002), Impuls/Roh (Sri Rahayu Mohd Yusop, 2010), and Warisnya Kalbu (Sri Rahayu Mohd Yusop, 2008). Self awareness component is divided into three characteristics, which are self emotion awareness, emotional monitering, and self motivation. The presence of self awareness component can be discerned through the events experienced by the persona that inevitably had connections with the persona’s background dan level of self awareness. Teenagers apt at monitering their emotions should have an excellent teenager’s characteristics such as strong religious grounding, excellent moral values, and being revered by others. This study was based upon the Theory of Emotional Intelligence of Mayer, Curaso and Salovey, and the Theory of Emotional Awareness of Daniel Goleman. The analysis of the self awareness component was made on the teenage characters when they were facing conflicts. Analysis carried out showed the ability of a teenager to control the emotions being faced and these emotions effects on her interpersonal relationships with her peers dan others around her to cultivate healthy social environment. The findings of this study show that the emotional awareness of the teenagers in the chosen novels are of high degree because they were skillful at managing their emotions and their good relationships with others. The ability of the teenager to ease her negative emotions and in turn use these negative emotions as motivations to improve herself is a major personal achievement by itself. Excellent personalities of the teenage characters were demonstrated by the reverence of others to them and the trust entrusted upon them. The findings of this study clearly show that the self awareness component of the Emotional Intelligent Theory plays a prominent role in excellent teenager characters building as aspired by the National Education Principle.
