SENI KALIGRAFI DALAM TEKSTIL MELAYU CALLIGRAPHIC ART IN MALAY TEXTILES

Abstract

Kajian ke atas seni kaligrafi dalam tekstil Melayu adalah satu usaha menganalisis seni tekstil berayat atau bertulis yang terdapat di alam Melayu. Aspek kajian bukan setakat terbatas kepada aspek estetikanya, bahkan aspek-aspek lain seperti etika, kebolehbacaan dan strukturnya. Dalam tekstil Melayu, beberapa tema popular telah dikenalpasti, seperti penggunaan Nama-Nama Tuhan, lafaz dua kalimah syahadah, surah-surah al-Qur'an, ayat-ayat berkenaan kemenangan berperang dan sebagainya. Penemuan yang paling besar dalam kajian tersebut ialah penemuan dua tekstil renunan yang memperliharkan tulisan kaligrafi yang telah disalaheja secara ridak sengaja; atau sengaja ditulis dalam keadaan menghina Islam. Dari aspek etika, seni tenunan tersebut haruslah dimusnahkan, arau ridak lagi dipamerkan, meskipun telah lama berada dalam simpanan pihak muzium. Keseluruhan kajian turut memperlihatkan seni tekstil sebagai manifesrasi pandangan alam Melayu dalam beberapa aspek kehidupan.

The research of Islamic calligraphy on Malay textile is an effort to analyze calligraphic textiles existed in the Malay world. The research does not only focus on the aesthetics, but also on other aspects such as ethics, decipherability and structure. In Malay textile, a few popular themes are identified, for instances: the Names of God, the two syahada, the sura of al-Qur'an, verses on the victory over the war and others. One of the most outstanding findings for the research is the finding of two textiles consist of the calligraphic words spelled wrongly, be it by accident or in purpose, perhaps by an intention to degrade the image of Islam. From ethical view, the textiles should be destroyed or no longer suitable to be displayed even though has been collected by the museums in years. The overall research is also uncovering textiles as a manifestation of Malay weltanschauung or worldview of a few aspects of Malay life.
