This study analyzes the perspectives of Malaysian Indian journalists on the role of social media in the dissemination of fake news. Based on previous literature and data collected from individuals aged 18 to 70, the study examines the challenges journalists face in addressing misinformation, the strategies they employ to verify information, and their efforts to enhance public awareness. The findings reveal a critical engagement with the credibility of online content and underscore the journalists’ role in mitigating the impact of fake news in the digital age. The findings indicate that while journalists acknowledge the social media as a valuable platform for accessing timely, thoughtful and useful content, they remain deeply concerns about misinformation and credibility. These concerns influence journalists to do rigorous verification and cross-checking before the content is published. At the same time, Journalists believe that the public have equal responsibility in verifying the content before sharing it to others in preventing the spread of fake news.
