‘Alamuddin al-Sakhawi and His Views on Scientific Miracle: A Presentation and Analysis
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article focuses on al-Sakhawi’s views of “scientific miracle” in the Quran. It therefore explores an answer to a fundamental question of whether the scientific indications in the Quran could be named as one of the aspects of Quranic miracles or not. Analyzing al-Sakhawi’s “Mabahith al-‘Ijaz”, this study found that he, like many other scholars, is a proponent of the view that there is no miracle in the Quran except in its structural style and internal coherence which is uncommon in conventional Arab usage. The author even did not consider the prophecies of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that came true as a miracle. Instead, according to him, these are the certifying evidences to his prophethood. It seems that the author is one of the pioneers who hold this view.
