Al-Balāghah wa Al-Naḥw wa Dawruhumā fī Fahm Dilālah Al-Naṣṣ Al-Qur’ānī: Sharḥ Ibn ‘Aqīl ‘alā Alfiyah Ibn Mālik Namūdhajan

Abstract

This research addresses the relationship between the sciences of Rhetoric and Grammar and their pivotal role in reaching a proper understanding of the meanings, implications, intended purposes, and legal judgments (rulings) of the Holy Quran. While most researchers in the field of linguistics, even specialists, tend to separate these two disciplines, studying each in isolation from the other, this research aims to clarify the connection between them and the manner in which they become a tool for comprehending the Arabic text in general, and the Holy Quran in particular. This involves a profound understanding that does not isolate the Quran from its connotations and intended purposes. Drawing upon selected examples from the Explanation of Ibn 'Aqeel on the Alfiya of Ibn Malik, the researcher adopted the inductive approach for gathering and organizing information and the analytical approach for investigating, analyzing, and discussing it. Consequently, the study concludes that the only path to understanding the Quranic text and reaching its intended purposes lies in studying both its grammatical structure and rhetorical connotation together. It emphasized that the Quranic system cannot be understood solely based on the rules of grammar; rather, each structure carries an intended meaning. In this regard, Ibn 'Aqeel's explanation stands out as one of the most important sources that have studied grammar in connection with rhetorical connotations.
