Abstract

On 19th May 2025, the author visited the late Malaysian actor, Mano Maniam, with the intention of casually discussing the latter’s involvement in local Shakespeare productions. At Mano’s prompting, the meeting was turned into an interview. The actor shared a wide range of anecdotes and insights regarding his experiences with Shakespeare, from his days as a student at the Anglo-Chinese School (ACS), Ipoh to his later work as a seasoned theatre actor. Mano also discussed the issues of multiculturalism, Malaysian drama, and the role of theatre in contemporary life. To commemorate the anniversary of Mano’s passing, the author has produced the interview as an edited piece of prose, in line with the actor’s intentions.
