Abstract
High performance sports schools programs (SPTS) are the sports development programme which are aimed to produce talents at the grassroots. Nowadays, the SPTS programme have been 9 years in progress for 8 games namely football, badminton, athletic, sepak takraw, gymnastic, gymrama, netball and archery. This research was conducted to evaluate the concept of management for football teams using a theory that was introduced by Dean & West (1999); and Gould (2012). Based on this theory, 4 factors were used in the sports management. The 4 factors are team management, training, evaluation and monitoring & supervising. Survey method is used as the methodology in this research. This research would choose sampling that consists of management group and officials at 40 SPTS centres in Malaysia which covered 208 respondents. The findings of this research showed that SPTS in Malaysia, in overall, is strongly effective in the 4 researched factors. From the aspect of sub scale, it was found that monitoring and supervising strategies about recording system was at the moderate level and financial factor in management aspect was at the moderate level as well. This research findings can be used by the schools which are interested to develop sports especially football. The concept of football team management can assist our country in producing high performance players at the international level in the future provided that the players are trained systematically with the right method.
