Abstract

Abstract
     Bing Gu’s prose on rubber estates occupies an important position in the history of Malaysian Chinese literature. His prose mainly describes diverse Malaysia's scenery, life in rural areas, local customs, and its habitants, at the same time exhibiting strong personal
lyrical nature with regional characteristics. His prose also narrates his personal experience intersecting with the hard life of rubber workers, the rubber estate construction, and the language medium in such rubber estate. These words are not only his personal experience, but they are also historical witnesses. They document the development of the rubber plantation industry in Malaysia. Based on thorough reading, this article analyzes Bing Gu’s upbringing and his literacy background, the construction of the rubber estate, and the language medium in it from the era background and artistic expression perspective, and further explores its artistic characteristics.
